Preventive dentistry is one of the easiest ways to keep your mouth healthy. Keeping your appointments with us at least every six months is the best way to guarantee good overall oral health as it gives us a chance to catch any issues early on before the issue becomes complicated. At every routine exam, we will evaluate your mouth for any changes that could be detrimental to your oral health in the long run. This includes evaluating your mouth for tooth decay, gum disease, infection, and tumors. At every appointment we will perform a full mouth evaluation and if the need presents itself, we will perform dental x-rays to ensure that nothing is going on that we are unable to see with a visual examination.

The Aging Process and your Mouth
Even if you do not feel it, your mouth changes as you age, which means you need to know what is going on with your oral health. The aging process not only occurs to your body, but your mouth too. Whether your teeth are suddenly discolored, they begin to shift, or you have suspicious spots in your mouth, we will be able to determine what is going on very early on in the process when you keep your regular appointments. This means that you will be able to minimize the invasiveness of the procedures necessary to rectify the problem in the future.
At Santa Monica Bay Dental, we are proud to keep our patients educated on every aspect of their oral health. At your regular appointments, we will discuss with you any changes that are occurring and how you need to alter your oral hygiene habits in order to stay healthy. We will also discuss with you any problems that we have found and the necessary treatments to rectify the problem. It is our goal to ensure that every patient is fully educated on their oral health in order to promote overall healthy habits in each and every one of our patients.
In Between Appointments
In between your checkups, we encourage you to follow proper oral hygiene habits. This includes brushing your teeth at least twice a day and flossing once. If you are able to brush your teeth after every time that you eat, you will enhance your oral health even more. We also encourage you to follow a healthy diet, avoid eating too many sugar-filled foods or carbohydrates, and to drink plenty of water, especially after eating in order to remove any food particles that remain in your mouth after eating.
With proper oral hygiene habits and regular checkups with Santa Monica Bay Dental, you will be able to keep your oral health in optimal shape. Even if it has been a while since your last checkup, we encourage you to call us today to get yourself back on track. It is never too late to take control of your oral health.
