If you are looking for a way to get that bright, white smile with perfectly straight teeth – dental veneers might be just the answer you need! At Santa Monica Bay Dental, we are proud to provide our patients with the versatility and pleasing appearance of veneers. These simple porcelain additions to your teeth can give the illusion of bright white, straight, non-chipped, and non-stained teeth! There is no recovery period and no pain while the procedure is performed. After just 2 appointments, you can leave our office with the smile you have always dreamed about.

How do Porcelain Veneers Work?
Porcelain veneers, as the name suggests, are made of porcelain pieces. Each patient has their own custom-made veneers that perfectly match the shape and style of their existing teeth. This means that you will have a comfortable fit and still be able to talk, smile, and chew with ease. The sheets of porcelain are simply placed over your existing enamel to perfect your smile! You can use them to fix a large variety of problems, including large gaps, crooked teeth, stains, or small chips/fractures.

What to Expect
The veneer application process occurs over a period of 2 appointments. During the first appointment, our dentists will assess your mouth to ensure that you do not have any issues that would prevent you from getting veneers. The most common reasons include periodontal disease including bone loss or obvious signs of bruxism (teeth grinding). If either of these issues are present, then other solutions will be provided. If you are a good candidate, however, we will prepare your mouth for veneers – in some cases this means taking off a miniscule amount of your enamel and take impressions of your mouth in order to have the custom veneers made. Temporary veneers are custom made to cover your teeth between your two appointments.

Once the veneers are ready, you can come in for your second appointment and the veneers are applied. Before they become a permanent part of your mouth, we will ensure that they fit well and that you are happy with their appearance. Once everyone approves, the veneers become a permanent part of your straight, white, beautiful smile!

Caring for Veneers
There is no downtime that occurs after you have dental veneers applied to your teeth, but you will need to take certain precautions to ensure that they stay as beautiful as the day you got them. As long as you properly brush and floss your teeth twice a day, the veneers will stay as healthy as the rest of your teeth. In addition, however, you will need to avoid excessive consumption of staining foods and drinks, including: dark colored berries, tomatoes, coffee, tea, and soda. This does not mean that you cannot ever consume these items, but you should do so infrequently to avoid the risk of staining your veneers.
